Dr. Michael Roberts, P.T., D.P.T '09, '11
2016 Recipient for the Graduate of the Last Decade Award
Dr. Michael Roberts, PT, DPT, CMTPT, graduated with honors from Carroll University in 2009 with a bachelor of science in exercise science and in 2011 with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. During his student tenure, he was the physical therapy class president and was accepted to present original peer reviewed research at the American Physical Therapy Association national conference. One of his most memorable experiences during his time at Carroll University was while he was in Guatemala for a clinical rotation through Hearts In Motion, a non-profit organization that provides medical care to people in need in areas of poverty.
Shortly after graduating, Dr. Roberts joined the Carroll University Physical Therapy Department as an associated faculty, instructing in all three Research and Readings courses, as well as assisting in Orthopedics and Applied Physiology. Dr. Roberts strongly believes in the program's mission that is based on best care, respect to patient values, evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning, and contributing to the profession and community.
It is these skills and values he obtained through Carroll University that motivated and allowed him to open his own practice in 2013. His practice, Wisconsin Orthopedic Physical Therapy, is modeled on a patient centered, hands-on approach and one-on-one care with clinicians who consider themselves lifelong learners. It is because of these characteristics that his business has had success and was able to expand into a larger, new location in 2015. His future plans include growing his business with like-minded therapists who share in his vision. Wisconsin Orthopedic Physical Therapy was recently voted runner-up for the top physical therapy clinic in the Shepherd Express "Best of Milwaukee 2015."
Dr. Roberts has given back to the ever-growing Carroll University physical therapy classes by opening up his clinic for fundraising opportunities and enjoys hosting Carroll University undergraduate students who are interested in the field of physical therapy. He also is scheduled to travel with a group of Carroll University students to Guatemala later this year as a clinical instructor.
Dr. Roberts provides free consultations to all potential patients, but has specifically worked with the City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works. He also works closely with the Milwaukee Fire Department and is a preferred provider for firefighters injured on the job. He has a profound respect for all of his patients and it shows through the level of care that each individual receives.
Dr. Roberts is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Wisconsin Physical Therapy Association, APTA Orthopedic Section, and APTA Private Practice Section.
Dr. Roberts is married to Carroll alumna, Lauren (Birch) Roberts '07, and continues to live in Waukesha.
